Published: 22/10/2009

A Brisbane development has received one of Australia’s most prestigious construction awards after being recognised by prominent property developers and equity financiers from around the country.

Brookfield Multiplex’s $1.3 billion dollar master-planned urban community Portside Wharf has been named Australia’s Best Mixed Use Development for 2009 at the recent Urban Taskforce Development excellence awards.

Multiplex Living Sales & Marketing Director Tim Willing said the award highlighted Portside Wharf’s unique offering.

“Nowhere else in Australia will you find a development like Portside Wharf.

“The riverfront precinct is a sophisticated mix of uses including a world-class cruise terminal, high quality waterfront residential living combined with a range of retail including boutique stores, a cinema and gym complex, fresh food market and some of Brisbane’s finest restaurants and cafes,” he said.

Mr Willing said those who call Portside Wharf home report a tremendous sense of place by living in a unique community that embraces people from across Brisbane, as well as cruise passengers from across Australia and every corner of the globe.

“We’ve had an extremely successful response to Stage 1 of our residential offering, achieving sales up to $6M for the penthouse apartment.

Mr Willing said the final release of apartments was now underway for the Stage 2 development; Promenade Hamilton Apartments.

“When comparing size, quality and cost per square metre to other surrounding developments, Promenade Hamilton Apartments is the best value in Brisbane’s blue chip suburb of Hamilton,” Mr Willing said.

Chairman of Urban Taskforce Judges, Chris Johnson said the project was an impressive mix of uses.

“The $1.3 billion development on completion will act as a generator of further urban renewal in the Hamilton area of Brisbane.

“The mixed use nature of the project along with the excitement of the Cruise Terminal has made the project a hub for the local community and for wider Brisbane.

The Urban Taskforce is a property development industry group, representing Australia’s most prominent property developers and equity financiers.
